Introduction
You can be deeply loved by a man and still not be fully chosen.
He may care for you, share his life with you, and speak about a future together. Yet when it is time to take the next step, whatever that step looks like for you, something in him stalls. There is always another fear, another objection, another reason to wait.
Perhaps you have rehearsed the conversation before bringing it up again. This time you would be calm. You would choose the right words. You would make it clear that you were not pressuring him. Yet somehow the conversation always seems to end the same way: it tips into an argument, or it simply gives way to another reason, another delay, and you are left wondering whether you asked for too much.
You have given him your time, your patience, your warmth, and possibly some of your most valuable reproductive or retirement years, and everything in between. You have shown up fully and loved generously. You may share a home, finances, pets, children, and years of memories. Yet there is still no proposal. No wedding date. No legal agreement protecting what you have built together. No moment when he looks you in the eye and says, without condition or excuse, “I choose you,” or even, “I choose you, and if marriage is not where we land, let’s build something on paper that protects you as if it were.”
This space between being loved and being fully chosen is where many women become lost.
The more capable you are, the more likely you are to treat this like a problem you can solve. You explain more. You research more. You initiate another conversation. You reassure him, make compromises, and search for the perfect words that will finally help him understand. You give him more time, growing more anxious, more urgent, and, quietly, more resentful with every passing month.
Without realizing it, you begin doing the emotional work of the relationship for two. You grow stressed, anxious, and afraid, and slowly become someone you do not recognize. Somewhere underneath, the woman he fell for, the shining, sparkling Diamond Girl you have always been, is still there. She is just buried under the weight of an unanswered commitment, insecurity, and the unknown.
The problem is not that you have failed to find the perfect words, or that you simply have not waited long enough. The problem is that you have been trying to make a decision that only he can make, in his own time, and he is in no rush. Time moves very differently for a man than it does for a woman.
This is where walking away begins.
Walking away does not always mean packing your belongings, ending the relationship, or closing the door forever. It means no longer convincing, chasing, reminding, managing, rescuing, or trying to manufacture the outcome you desperately want. You may walk away while still dating him, living with him, raising children with him, or sleeping beside him every night. You may walk away without ever leaving.
Here is how it works: get clear about what you want, then create space instead of pressure. Let him face what he stands to lose. This is not a threat, and it is not an ultimatum. It is simply what happens when a woman quietly, gradually, stops being available to a man who has not chosen her. Only then can he miss you and grapple with what has been holding him back.
In my private coaching and classes, I have watched thousands of women struggle in this exact space. Brilliant, loving, successful women who know how to solve problems everywhere except inside the relationship that matters most to them. Yet all their effort cannot make a man certain he wants to choose them.
I have also watched what happens when a woman stops trying to make his decision for him. She stops rereading his last text, guessing at his moods, and rehearsing what to say next. She returns her attention to the moment, to her life, her pleasure, her future, and the woman she was before uncertainty became the center of her world.
Then something important happens. He feels the space where all her effort used to be. At first he feels a little relief, but later he gets curious and begins to miss her presence. This is where real change begins. Not because she withheld love, but because space is the only thing that lets a man feel, in his own body, exactly what he stands to lose.
This is not the fairy-tale version a woman dreams about, yet it is often the reality of many modern relationships.
You cannot force a man to choose you. What you can do is give the relationship its best possible chances to move forward, while giving yourself the clarity to recognize when it cannot.
At the heart of this book is the word CHOSEN.
C is for Clarity. See yourself, the man, and the relationship exactly as they are.
H is for Hear Your Heart. Slow down and discover what you honestly and authentically feel.
O is for Observation. Watch what he does, not only what he says.
S is for Silence. Stop filling every space with explanations, solutions, and words.
E is for Ease. Release your grip on the outcome and allow the truth to unfold.
N is for Now. Your life is not a waiting room. It is happening today.
You are allowed to want marriage, the proposal, the ring, and the happily ever after. You are allowed to want a baby with him, and to walk away if he keeps postponing that future. If marriage is not what you want, you are still allowed to want a monogamous, committed union, and the security that comes with it. This includes knowing your rights, protecting your financial future, and advocating for the things you value and want to protect. You are allowed to ask for more. You are allowed to walk away from less.
Most of all, you are allowed to choose yourself first, every time. A Diamond Girl does not shrink to be chosen. She shines, and it is that ability to shine, even as she walks away, that creates the warmth and space to be fully chosen. A man may not completely understand what he had until the sparkle he loved is suddenly gone. Again, this is not the fairy-tale version. It is the version in which you walk away to create the absolute best chances for your future.
Prepare yourself, Diamond Girl. You are about to learn why walking away works, and why it is the very thing that finally gets you chosen.
